Argentine-American Lyric Coloratura Soprano Melissa Batallés has established her career performing primarily as a concert soloist with pianists and orchestras, as well as with opera and musical theater productions. Some recent highlights have been performing as a featured soloist in New York at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel for the Diamond Jubilee of the Viennese Opera Ball, in Fort Myers with the Southwest Florida Symphony for “Pops II: A Tribute to Erich Kunzel”, and in South Carolina with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra for the “Sunset Serenade” at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. She returned for a fifth consecutive time as the soloist for the Barbara Sinatra Center for Abused Children’s fundraising Gala at the Hyatt Grand Champions Hotel in Indian Wells, and boarded Crystal Cruises on their “Serenity World Cruise” to perform as the featured Operatic soloist for their Annual Pops Concert.
Life, Love, and Lullabies, Ms. Batallés’ newest presentation, weaves together classic music and concise story telling to usher its audience into her engaging family story. Life, Love, and Lullabies takes the listener on a musical journey from Kansas, to New York City, to Argentina and California, chronicling her family’s voyage through love, loss and redemption. This one hour show is rich in the most well known opera arias, loved Broadway tunes, great American standards, patriotic hymns, and endearing lullabies. It is a remarkable journey not to be missed.
Melissa is a three-time recipient of the Michael Masser ASCAP Scholarship, the Audience Choice Award and Kreshek “Best Vocalist” for McCallum Theatre’s Open Call Competition; Finalist in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition, winner of both the AEIOU and Professional Opera Singer’s Association competitions, and finalist in the 2012 Meistersinger Competition in Austria where she performed with orchestra in Austria conducted by La Scala Opera conductor, Maestro Edoardo Müller.
Some of her operatic and theatrical roles include Frasquita (Carmen), Mrs. Ford (The Merry Wives of Windsor), Laetitia (The Old Maid and The Thief), Soloist Nun and Ensemble (The Sound of Music) and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) with West Bay Opera of San Francisco. Following her performance with West Bay Opera Melissa performed the role of Nimue (Camelot) with the Santa Barbara Symphony in their production at the Granada Theatre. In South Carolina she performed as Maria for a concert version of West Side Story with the Charleston Symphony.
Her operatic studies began with her Bachelors in Music Performance at Biola University of Southern California. Upon receiving her degree she trained in Argentina with a leading Soprano from the world renowned Teatro Colón before heading overseas for operatic training in Austria. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband and four beautiful daughters and travels throughout the USA for performances.
